Relays, static contactors and power controllers are necessary in all industrial processes. They are ideal replacements for electromechanical power contactors.

Usually controlled by control loops, thyristor power controllers handle switching of high electrical powers.

Indeed, their solid-state operating principle eliminates the contact wear problems encountered with electromechanical systems, leading to costly production downtime. To increase the time between two contact changes, the contactor's switching period is extended, causing deterioration of the control loop.
