At the Heart of Our Products – Commissioning of the Thyritop 600 at an Automotive Group

1 February 2025

background

Today, in “Inside Our Products,” our temperature control experts are optimizing the performance of the Thyritop 600's settings as part of the retrofit of an engine housing baking oven.

The temperature controllers in the Thyritop 600 series are installed in a massive furnace. Measuring over 25 meters long and spanning two levels, this furnace is the beating heart of the automotive production facility. Integrated into this industrial thermal process, our Thyritop controllers will optimize the operational and energy efficiency of the furnaces used to manufacture raw parts made of spheroidal graphite cast iron and aluminum alloys (powertrain and suspension components). These parts will then be sent to machining and/or assembly units and to the paint curing tunnels for vehicle bodies.

However, optimizing their installation requires manufacturer-specific expertise and meticulous parameter configuration to meet the required quality standards. The challenge for Pyrocontrole and our partner lies in the retrofit of this furnace through an essential upgrade to

achieve the ambitious targets set: producing up to 3.5 million engine blocks per year. To achieve this, the involvement of our experts is crucial. Their product and configuration expertise is key to ensuring production that is efficient, safe, and energy-efficient.

The benefits of this collaboration are not limited to this installation. In fact, its impact is evident on several levels. The dimmers installed will not only optimize the operational efficiency of the furnaces but also improve their energy performance. This represents a significant step forward in a context where sustainability has become an industrial imperative.

Beyond the numbers and performance metrics, this collaboration embodies a shared vision between Pyrocontrole and the multinational automaker: that of a more responsible and efficient automotive industry. It is a partnership in which technical expertise combines with innovation to shape the future of automotive manufacturing.

Did you know?

In industry, the term “retrofit” generally refers to the process of modernizing or upgrading existing equipment, systems, or facilities to make them more efficient, more effective, or more compliant with new standards or requirements.

A retrofit may involve various actions, such as installing newer components or technologies, upgrading software, improving energy efficiency, or even completely reconfiguring systems to meet new needs or objectives.

This process is often used in sectors such as manufacturing, engineering, energy, aerospace, and others where existing equipment must be kept relevant and competitive in an ever-changing environment. Retrofitting can enable companies to extend the useful life of their existing investments while taking advantage of the latest technological advances, which can be more cost-effective than completely replacing the equipment.
